Abstract

Background. The group of the aggrieved peasants is thought to be one of the least investigated issues in the sphere of dispossession of the kulaks. The main purpose of the research is to analyse the categories and population size of Penza region's peasants who were deprived of suffrage, dispossessed, and then evicted from their lands.
Materials and methods. The main sources of the research are the unexplored documents of Penza Region's State Archives (including personal records of the dispossessed and carload lists of the evicted), published documents, and modern historical literature.
Results. The group of Penza region's dispossessed kulaks and the most significant periods of dispossession were analysed. The number of the peasants who were dispossessed and deprived of the right to vote were determined. The authors compared the population size of the aggrieved peasantry in the Middle Volga region and the Soviet Union in whole.
Conclusions. Investigation of the categories of Penza region's dispossessed and evicted peasantry pointed at the fact that the peak of dispossession took place back to 1930–1931. A considerable part (about one third) of rural disabled persons also participated in those processes.

Key words
